Honoring the Late Jimmy Higgins
By Kevin Devlin

Pop Warner officials present Joyce Higgins and her two sons, Jackie and Jimmy, with the 2013 Golden Shamrock Award, in memory of her late husband, Jimmy M. Higgins. Also pictured are Pop Warner Football League president Danny Ferrara, Vice-presidents, Bobby Ferrara and John Clifford, “A” team cheerleader Lily Joyce and “E” team cheerleading coach, Michelle Joyce.

“The 2013 season is being dedicated to one of the program’s founding board members,” said South Boston Pop Warner Football League president, Danny Ferrara. “Jim served as our legal advisor and set-up our non-profit ID information. He served as mediator and was the voice of reason during our discussions on how to best start this program once again. Jim also served as an instructive coach for many years.”

Jimmy was a great guy, terrific husband, and tremendous father. If his boys were playing hoop up at Gatey, he was there with Joyce watching them compete. If they were playing baseball at Moakley Park, he was there with Joyce. Whatever sport, what events his kids were participating in, Jimmy was there with his wonderful wife.

Jimmy loved South Boston and dedicated his time and energy to various programs and initiatives throughout his life. He is sadly missed.  And, will be forever remembered for his quick wit, keen mind, and his kind and generous heart.

(Please note: The Quietman Memorial Golf Fund generously donated $1000 in honor of Jim’s memory to Pop Warner.)
