Time to Rebuild America
By Kevin Devlin

But now we suffer from within. We’ve poured billions into foreign aid and sundry wars to maintain our interests abroad. Our national debt is in the trillions. Detroit is bankrupt and may not be the last major city (or state, see California) to go belly-up. Our prisons are full. Crime and violence are in the news every day. Personal responsibility is dead. Many kids graduate from high school with few marketable-skills. Politicians are clueless and have divided the country. Alleged racism has reared its ugly head. We are in dire need of moral and economic infusions.

Why give monies to foreign countries to rebuild their infrastructures when our bridges are crumbling? Why send aid for hungry children elsewhere when our own children go to bed hungry every night?    Let’s put Americans to work building new bridges, trees and cleaning streets. Let’s demolish the thousands of abandoned buildings in Detroit and other cities and build new parks, homes and businesses. Let’s concentrate our efforts on solving the immigration problem and the destructive issues of drug-abuse and violence on our city streets. Let’s solve our educational woes and put Americans to work and off federal doles.

History teaches us that harboring an isolationist philosophy can be dangerous, witness our reluctance to enter World War II and the subsequent realization to enter the fray. But times have changed and it’s time to solidify our home base and regroup. It’s time to rebuild America.

If America isn’t strong and our economy isn’t productive, we won’t be in a position to help others.

And, we’d have to throw away our policeman’s badge from our tattered uniform.
