DON'T MISS THE BOAT !
July 14, 2005
I thought somebody missed the Provincetown II as we headed back to the pier just an hour after we set sail that warm July night. It was the first harbor cruise to benefit the South Boston Boys & Girls Club and the boat was packed with a thousand revelers. Few hardly noticed as we glided to the dock. The upper deck was rocking to Mark Morris and the Catunes while the Alessi Trio entertained below deck. Everyone on board was dancing, singing and greeting old friends and neighbors.

"Who missed the boat?" I asked Pattie McCormick. "Nobody missed the boat," she said.

"They ran out of beer!" The cruise committee thought they had covered every detail. They didn't anticipate the enthusiastic dancing combined with the warm summer night would create such a thirst.

The crew worked speedily passing the cold cases of beer up the gangway and we were quickly underway sailing out the harbor. Michael Glasfeld, owner of the Provincetown II, generously donates his boat for the South Boston Boys & Girls Club Harbor Cruise as a way of giving back to the community. He continues to support the Club because he observes firsthand the spirit, the respect and the loyalty club alumni have for each other. The friendships made at the Southie club last a lifetime.

Don't YOU miss the boat! The Boys & Girls Club harbor cruise is Wednesday, July 20 at 7 p.m. leaving from Commonwealth pier. Call your neighbors, bring your friends and get together with old club buddies. The Provincetown II will have plenty of beer!
