|Substance Abuse & Alcohol Informational Meeting February 16
The South Boston Crime Watch in conjunction with the South Boston elected officials have scheduled the second in a series of community meetings which will deal with issues which directly impact our community and its residents. This meeting which will deal with substance abuse and alcohol will take place at the South Boston Boys and Girls Club on Thursday February 16th beginning at 6:30PM. The meeting is open to all residents and will feature speakers who are on the front lines in the fight against drug and alcohol abuse. The meeting is free.
“At the Crime Symposium on January 21st at the Convention Center we learned a lot about crime watches and crime statistics and other pertinent information, but every person who attended that meeting was shocked by one number that John McGahan, Director of the Cushing House, quoted. That number was12.2. That is the average age of first drug use by those he is seeing at the Cushing House. That is Little League age and its pretty scary,” stated State Rep Brian Wallace.
We need to confront the problem , find solutions and alternatives, find resources to help and provide information to parents about what is out there, what they can do, where they can go and whom they can turn to if they find themselves or their neighbors confronting substance abuse or alcohol problems. This is a chance to ask questions from the experts who have been through it and who are now helping others through it. We will also hear from Boston Police about their efforts and to find out how you can help.
