|Panel Of Experts To Speak At Drug And Alcohol Forum At Club
The South Boston Crime Watch Group in conjunction with all of South Boston’s elected officials and the Cityside Neighborhood Association is lining up a panel of experts to speak to residents at the Drug and Alcohol Awareness Night at the South Boston Boys and Girls Club on Thursday February 16th
Members of the Joint Committee on Substance Abuse and Mental Health at the State House will address local residents as well as well known and well respected South Boston District Court Probation Officer Jack Leary. Cushing House Director John McGahan is also on the agenda. South Boston Collaborative Director Andy Ward will speak as will a DEA agent who will provide expert testimony on the effect and the spread of crystal- meth. The South Boston Community Health Center will be represented. Boston Police Captain Paul Russell will speak as will a Boston Police Drug Enforcement Officer as well as a few residents who have been active in substance and alcohol abuse issues in South Boston.
“We are seeing a subtle change in the drugs that are now being sold on the streets,” stated State Representative Brian Wallace. “Klonopin and Vicodin are now starting to be seen in ever increasing numbers to go along with Marijuana, Oxycontin, Heroin, and Ecstasy Substance abuse professionals like John McGahan at the Cushing House are now seeing kids as young as 12 years old involved with these dangerous and life altering drugs. We will discuss these drugs as well as many other issues including the crime that is associated with these drugs on February 16th. You will also have a chance to question any of the professionals who will make presentations that night,” Rep Wallace stated.
