Holly Provenzano Kicking It at Savio
By Joe Kelly

This fall she entered Savio Prep High School in East Boston and quickly became the teams leading scorer tallying eleven goals in the first seven games. Holly says her favorite sports moment came this year when scored a “hat trick”, 3 goals, in a 4 to 0 win.

Holly also played on the South Boston travel team the last four years under the tutelage of Billy Linehan learning the importance of field position and teamwork. She is also an outstanding basketball player and was an integral part of this years Lady Spartans of Southie that captured the 2005 Girls 15 and Under Championship coached by Dave Nagle. She was also a member of the ADSL Girls Under 14 championship teams in 2003 and 2005. Two of Holly’s greater traits are her quickness and anticipation of where the ball is going in both sports. She has also played softball the past three years and Gatey CYO basketball for the past eight.

Holly is the daughter of Nick and Gayle Provenzano and sister to Sean and Nicholas and has a dog named Bigbee. Her mom says, “Holly has always been a team player, she fights to the end no matter the situation. Herr dad and I are very proud of her and we know that she will succeed at whatever she chooses to do in life”. Varsity soccer coach Mike Dimarino told Online, “Holly has been a great addition to our team. She is a big reason we have been successful this year. She is a special athlete; a nice person who works hard everyday, Holly is very methodical. It’s to the point now that the other teams have identified her and try to eliminate her from the game”. The coach pointed out that because of the other teams targeting Holly it has freed up the other players to attack the goal.

Holly loves hanging out with her friends, which isn’t a problem at soccer as eight of her teammates are Southie girls as well. She loves collecting teddy bears and usually hears from her friend Erin right after school. Her favorite food is a chicken ceaser wrap, her favorite school subject is math and enjoys watching the TV show One Tree Hill. Holly received a Scholarship for best-written essay upon graduating from St. Brigid’s School and also received awards for overall cooperation and performance.

Holly would like to thank all her sports coaches for teaching her all about the game and her family and friends for their support. Holly tells Online that she would like to meet Nick Lachey (why he is single now!), the movie “Crash” is a must see and wants to travel to more tropical places after visiting Aruba. Savio Prep plays this week for a share of the league title and has three home games next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday so if you want to go some great soccer head over to Savio to cheer on Holly and her Southie teammates.
