Gatey C.Y.O. Fundraiser
By Touchie McDonough

People are asking, “Is the Gatey C.Y.O. having their annual fundraiser this year?”  The answer is YES.  This year will be our 20 fundraiser, which started in 1986.  Twenty years is a long time and since then we have had a lot of fun and done a lot of good.

This may be the last time we have our fundraiser in the Parish Hall which will be sold to the South Boston Neighborhood House in order to complete the renovations on the church.

Since February, 1986, the C.Y.O. program has grown and provided a constructive alternative to the youth of South Boston and beyond.  This year our fundraiser’s theme will be one of Remembrance.  Let’s gather together one more time in our Parish Hall and remember all the good old times we have had over the years.  All those High School and C.Y.O. basketball games and practices, hanging in the Youth Center, the school March plays, Dances and Semi-Formals, Graduations, Bazaars, Turkey Shoots, Spaghetti Dinners, Bingo, Coffee and Conversation, Girl Scouts, Irish Step Dancing, Cub and Boy Scouts, AA and just a place to go.

Let’s remember all those who served us over the years.  The Sisters of Saint Joseph, priests, teachers, coaches, director, and commissioners who spent so much time with us in the Hall.

Let us also remember all our loved ones who spent so much time with us as a family, friends, neighbors, teammates, classmates and fellow parishioners of our church community who are no longer with us.  Just a few people over the past 20 years who were so instrumental in the C.Y.O. program and fundrais, who will always be missed are John Hart, Jack McDonough, Dan Flynn, Jim O’Sullivan, Ann McDonough, Marie Ryan, Marty O’Brien, Dennis Donovan, Jamie Duggan and Father Paul White.  Lets  gather one more time in the Gatey Hall and remember the good times when they were sitting, standing, dancing, laughing, drinking and singing next to us having the time of their life.

So save the date, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25, GATE OF HEAVEN PARISH HALL, 7 p.m., the 20th Gate of Heaven C.Y.O. Annual Dinner/Drawing Fundraiser, Full Course Dinner - $5000 Grand Prize Drawing.

More information next week or contact any coach, committee member, rectory, Midge Darling, Kevin and Kathy Lally, Touchie and Denise McDonough, or Teresa and Ellie Hart
