by Rick Winterson Last November 11, a fundraiser for Sydni Pecevich took place at the Murphy Rink. The occasion was her 12th birthday. Once she got there, Sydni actually skated for the very first time in her life. One reason for the party was to raise funds for a specially equipped van that can ferry Sydni, her wheelchair, and all her equipment around safely and comfortably. It was a joyful occasion, and a pleasure to write about in South Boston Online’s November 17 issue. by Rick Winterson The World War I Commemoration Committee has completed its third meeting at the Fitzgerald VFW Post. Many plans and events are underway. The first such event at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, will commemorate the Fallen Heroes of World War I. It will be held at South Boston High School. Were you aware there is a large pictorial memorial of South Boston’s World War I Fallen Heroes – 101 of those brave soldiers, who were killed in action before World War I ended on Armistice Day in 1918?? On January 20th, grade 6 students at South Boston Catholic Academy participated in a hands-on workshop aligned to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks offered by the Education Staff at the MIT Museum. Workshops are designed to inspire interest in science, technology and engineering. The workshop we attended focused on Robotics, with students engaged in interactive learning as depicted below. In the past grade 6 students from South Boston Catholic Academy have received instruction at the MIT Museum on the Science of DNA and Holography.
