On Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Walsh Center gym, the Gate of Heaven CYO third and fourth grade boys team, coached by Danielle McDonald and Sean Monahan, played in the annual CYO Vicariate Tournament. Their opening round opponent was Saint Agatha’s of Milton.

It was a close knit game and with less than 30 seconds to play, Gatey was leading by three, with the score at 20-17. Then, Saint Agatha’s raced down the court and hit a three-pointer from downtown, to tie it. It looked like the game was going to go into overtime, but with 6.2 seconds left on the game clock, Gatey forward Robert Wisniewski had the ball and dribbled to his right. He shot the ball hoping for a happy ending. The ball hit the backboard and then went straight through the net. His three-pointer would be the difference, as Gatey won, 23-20.

It was truly an exciting finish. The onlookers from both teams applauded all the players for a game well-played.

“Wow, what a shot!” said Gate of Heaven Athletic Director Kevin Lally. “Both teams played well. It was a tough loss for Saint Agatha’s but it was a great win for our kids. They were trailing…stuck with it…had to come from behind and then he hit that shot to take the lead again. Robert will remember this game and that shot for a long time. Congratulations to him and the team.”
