How does a cancer patient from around here receive a cure from a U.S. Navy midshipman on the West Coast, and then engage South Boston’s most popular local DJ to help him give back? We won’t say it’s easy, but we will say it’s actually happening. The chain of these coincidences will be completed Friday evening in the Boston Teachers Union Hall.

Cancer survivor Donnie Lewis received a stem cell transplant from Danny Alcantor, a 21-year-old midshipman from California. Alcantor was the one, perfect match to Donnie Lewis out of 25 million members of the Bone Marrow Donor Registry. Donnie Lewis will give back, by hosting a fundraising dance with Dru Errico serving as DJ. The event is at 8 p.m. at the Boston Teachers Union Hall, 180 Mt. Vernon St., Friday, May 6. You can make this “magic” (but real) circle complete by attending yourself. It’s just $20 per person. All proceeds will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for cancer research and patient services.
