On Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Walsh Center gym, Saint Vincent’s two CYO boys’ travel teams competed in the annual CYO Vicariate Tournament. The seventh and eighth grade team went home with a victory in the opening round by cruising to victory against Saint Agatha’s of Milton, while the fifth and sixth grade team lost to a talent-laden Saint Peter’s of Cambridge squad.

The older boys’ squad is coached by Billy Allen and Alhaji Mansaray. They were 9-3 during the regular season and continued their winning ways against coach John Timmins’ team from Milton. For Saint Vincent’s, Djeison Resende was unstoppable, netting 22 points and hauling down 12 rebounds. Darrell Hardy scored 12 points, while Walter Steele and Alex Nunez had 10 points apiece.

“They’re good kids,” said Allen. “When they focus they’re tough to beat…so I hope they continue playing with enthusiasm in this tournament.”

The younger Saint Vincent’s CYO team is coached by George Benner. They courageously battled their foe from Cambridge but were outgunned. For Saint Vincent’s, Shakia Campbell netted 21 points, including three treys, while Geo Noel finished with 13 points.

The Saint Vincent’s CYO seventh and eighth grade boys’ travel team is coached by Billy Allen and Alhaji Mansaray. The players are Alan Nunez, Emmanuel Disla, Djeison Resende, Luis Rodriquez, Darrell Handy, Walter Steele, Edilson Pinto, and Johendry Gonzalez.
