On Sunday, May 15, at the Kingston Sports Complex, the South Boston Stars defeated the RABC from Rhode Island, 49-33, to capture the Zero Gravity Division III state championship.
The Stars played three games on Saturday, May 14, at the Boston Basketball Club in Waltham. In the opening tilt, they defeated Middlesex Magic, 57-45. Next game, they cruised to victory against the Bay State Flash, 61-31. In the final game on Saturday, the local entry defeated the New England Playaz, 50-18.
On Sunday, the team traveled to Kingston. In the semi-final game, the Stars played the New England Longhorns and won, 63-45. Jake Harrison netted 30 points and Marc Iannaco scored 27 points. In the championship game, the Stars defeated RABC to capture the title. Iannaco, Harrison, and Giovanni Noel scored 13 points apiece.
Coach Marc Iannaco was happy for his players.
“They all played great,” he said. “Everyone contributed throughout the tournament. They work hard, sacrifice, and play together. These kids are a pleasure to coach
“Winning this title means we qualify for the Zero Gravity national tournament,” he added. “This tournament is being held in Boston on June 10, 11 (and) 12, and we are looking forward to this next challenge.”
