Boston Clergy to Hold a Police Support Vigil in Wake of Tuesday Police Shootings and a Weekend Police Stabbing Black clergy in Boston will convene tonight, at 7 p.m., at St Peter’s Church in the Bowdoin Geneva section of Dorchester in prayer as a show of support for the city’s police. Boston to Recognize National Medal of Honor Day in Advance of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s Unprecedented Fourth Convention in Boston in September 2021 Governor Charlie Baker, Mayor Kim Janey, U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch and MOH Recipient and Massachusetts resident Capt. Thomas G. Kelley, USN Ret., will gather for a short speaking program and flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate National Medal of Honor Day, which every March 25 designated by Congress honors the Recipients of the Medal of Honor. The Boston Planning and Development Agency (the BPDA) granted approval for a mixed-use redevelopment of the original Edison Power Plant site.  Everyone now residing in South Boston is familiar with the power plant’s massive structure and stacks, which tower over the intersection of L/Summer and First Streets and are painted in shades of brown and pink.  The site’s first groundbreaking took place 122 years ago in 1898.  After a century of supplying electric power (coal-fired for decades), including occasional peak load shaving most recently, the Edison complex was mothballed 15 years ago, is still inaccessible to the public, and will need some environmental remediation. The Boston Police Department’s Station C-6 on West Broadway held its December meeting of South Boston’s Neighborhood Advisory Council (the NAC).  Due to COVID-19, this meeting was held virtually; it was chaired by Capt. Joseph Boyle, the Commander of BPD Station C-6.  Capt. Boyle began the NAC meeting by reviewing various serious crimes, both in Boston overall and here in South Boston. The Captain said that several types of crimes are increasing, especially crimes of violence.  Complaints about loud parties late at night, including those that violate rules put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19, are also on the increase.  In addition, many more crimes against property are being committed, which adds to the rapidly growing workload at Station C-6 when these are [...]

by Rick Winterson   It was a joyful occasion – the Memorial gathering at the Thomas J. Fitzgerald VFW Post No. 561 on  Veterans Day in 2020, and the unveiling of the Post’s 100th Anniversary Centennial Plaque.  The Post was named for Thomas J. Fitzgerald, killed in action during World War I on July 19, 1918.  He was only 24; he died just five short months after he enlisted in the Army. Fitzgerald came from South Boston.  A resident at 224 Gold Street, he was the only WWI casualty from his Knights of Columbus chapter, so his friends and fellow K of C members founded a Veterans of Foreign Post in his name.  The Thomas J.
