The overall winners were Mario Blasi, Kiera Lombard, Jerry O’Neil, Chris Hosea, Bobby Delaney, Sara Galvin and Emma Gillis. These Southie sectional winners will compete in the Knights of Columbus regionals to be held at Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury on Saturday, March 5. Boston police on Monday made several arrests and seized “significant amounts of various illegal drugs including heroin and crack cocaine,” according to a statement from the Boston Police Department. The Neighborhood Drug Control Unit in District C-6 (South Boston), executed search warrants Monday, which led to the arrests of Tahkeese Brown, 44, of Boston, Khalea Morrison, 24, of Boston, and Latoya Bradley, 31, of Boston. Brown was charged with the traffficking of a Class A drug. According to the BPD statement, the search warrant executed at 433 Old Colony Avenue led to the recovery of 600 bags of heroin (Class A drug) and over $1,000 in cash. South Boston Catholic Academy’s fifth-graders students held their Annual Invention Convention to showcase student inventions created from simple machines: a lever, a wedge, a screw, a pulley, an inclined plane or a wheel and axel. Students spent several weeks brainstorming, designing, discussing, and then finally, displayed their invention for all to see. During this month’s South Boston Catholic Academy’s Open House, the fifth grade classroom was filled to capacity with students, parents, grandparents and siblings who came to support, admire and discuss the students’ inventions.  Congrats to all our fifth grade inventors. It was the Gatey blue shirts versus the Gatey white shirts for Southie bragging rights. It was a close contest for the first 10 minutes of play and with 10:27 remaining in the first half, Gatey white led by five.
