For most residents, traveling downtown to Boston City Hall can be a long way to go. Boston is, after all, a city that stretches across nearly 50 square miles. Many people need a personal interaction to get direct services, ask a question or get information, so Boston is continuing to take City Hall to the neighborhoods during the month of February. Important services where and when you need them! The BYCF Condon Community Center is scheduled to host the “City Hall To Go” Truck on the fourth Thursday of this month. By KEVIN DEVLIN On Sunday, Feb. 21, at the Walsh Center gym, Saint Vincent’s two CYO boys’ travel teams competed in the annual CYO Vicariate Tournament. The seventh and eighth grade team went home with a victory in the opening round by cruising to victory against Saint Agatha’s of Milton, while the fifth and sixth grade team lost to a talent-laden Saint Peter’s of Cambridge squad. The older boys’ squad is coached by Billy Allen and Alhaji Mansaray. They were 9-3 during the regular season and continued their winning ways against coach John Timmins’ team from Milton. Such optimism abounds as the South Boston Stars spring soccer and basketball teams get ready to rumble. This upcoming season, from March through late May, the Southie Stars will be fielding three hoop teams and one soccer team. Southie Stars founder, Marc Iannaco, is coaching the Under 12 and Under 13 boys’ hoop teams, while Megan Cheeseman will be coaching the eighth-grade girls’ hoop team. The Metro Energy Club was the regular season champion with an 11-1 record and was not to be denied in the championship tilt. In the first half, Metro Energy Club guard Logan Crowley hit a three-pointer from the corner to give his team an 11-6 lead at intermission. In the opening minutes of the second half, the Jack McDonough Club went on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to one, 12-11. By KEVIN DEVLIN On Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Walsh Center gym, the Gate of Heaven CYO third and fourth grade boys team, coached by Danielle McDonald and Sean Monahan, played in the annual CYO Vicariate Tournament. Their opening round opponent was Saint Agatha’s of Milton. It was a close knit game and with less than 30 seconds to play, Gatey was leading by three, with the score at 20-17. South Boston Catholic Academy students honor saints

This February all the grades from pre-kindergarten to sixth at South Boston Catholic Academy had a chance to honor a saint by taking part in a Saint Door Decorating Contest. Each grade chose a special saint that they wanted to honor. The top three winners were: K1B in the Early Childhood Program whose door honored St. Joseph, Grade 2A whose door honored St. Francis and Grade 5B whose door honored St. Anthony. As you can see from the photos, all the grades did a remarkable job decorating their doors in honor of a special saint.
