Spring snowfall underwhelms city

2016-03-23T14:35:41-04:00March 23rd, 2016|Categories: News|Tags: |Comments Off on Spring snowfall underwhelms city

This photo was taken on East Fourth, less than a block away from L Street. It shows the final snow accumulation on Monday, March 21, around mid-morning. It appears that the local weather predictions were highly exaggerated – they forecast 6 inches or more; what’s shown is no more than 2 inches (and it mostly disappeared by noontime). It appears that our weather forecasters – who love to shock folks – perhaps “gilded the lily” a bit too much. Many people came into town late, or even took the day off. Boston’s schools were closed Monday and the announcement came the previous night, before the snow had even started to fall. -Rick Winterson

On Thursday, March 10, the Boston Center for Youth and Families sponsored a luncheon for seniors at the Condon Community Center. BCYF staff at the Condon organized the event and happily served those seniors in attendance. Boston City Councilor Billy Linehan came by and sang a couple of Irish songs. Boston at-large councilors Anissa Essaibi George and Mike Flaherty came by to wish the seniors a happy St. Patrick’s Day. Councilor Flaherty asked the group why they were being served Italian food at an Irish event. I guess they really didn’t care because the food was so tasty. Local resident John Healey also sang an Irish ditty and everyone had a great time. -Kevin Devlin Local resident John Healey is pictured with at-large Boston [...]

The South Boston Community Development Corporation and the Boston Redevelopment Authority hosted a neighborhood meeting on March 3 about the proposed elderly housing on an unused Boston Housing Authority lot on O’Connor Way. The 20 or so attendees included abutters and members of Andrew Square Civic Association, BHA and architects for the SBNDC. The project proposes 47 residence units. While there is no question that affordable housing, especially for the elderly, is a critical need in Boston, zoning exemptions and permissions will be required.
